Profile

Philip Carr

A senior practitioner trusted by insurers, government and the courts.

Philip is an experienced barrister, mediator and arbitrator with 38 years of continuous post-admission legal experience. He practised as a solicitor for 21 years before being called to the NSW Bar in 2004, working largely in insurance-related disputes involving commercial and common law issues.

He has conducted in excess of 800 mediations in both private and government matters since being accredited. Clients have included major insurers operating in Australia — including Lawcover and Suncorp — as well as the NSW Government, the Northern Territory Government and the NSW Health Department.

Philip believes that every dispute, regardless of its factual matrix or complexity, is capable of sensible resolution through the collaborative process of mediation and negotiation, outside the traditional litigious mechanisms available to the parties. He subscribes to the RAAF motto: "Through adversity to the stars."

He has an extensive background in alternative dispute resolution, having served as an early neutral evaluator, expert determiner, court-appointed arbitrator and facilitator across a range of jurisdictions.
